IDWedge Pro crashes when launching Formulas

Issue: The IDWedge Pro application will try to open up Formulas but immediately crash after an attempt. No immediate error messages are shown, but if you open Event Viewer to see why the application possibly crashed, you will see similar errors like the ones below.

Cause: If the incorrect Microsoft SQLCE version is installed on a PC or Windows machine you have installed IDWedge Pro on, this will cause the IDWedge Pro application to crash when trying to launch the Formulas feature.

To discover the cause of the issue, navigate to the C:\Tokenworks\IDWedge_Pro directory. Scroll down while in the directory and look for the SQLCE dlls.

Right-click on one of these dlls and go to Properties.

In Properties, click on the Details tab. This will show the SQLCE version of the DLL. You can see the File Version for the SQLCE dlls is 3.5.8080.0.

We will now check the File Version of the SQLCE dlls installed on the PC.

To begin, navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition.

In the directory, you will see the folder with the version of SQLCE installed on the PC, ex, v3.5.

Open this folder. You will see the same SQLCE dlls we saw in the IDWedge_Pro directory.

Right-click one of these Dlls and go to Properties. In Properties, select the Details tab. As you can see, the File Version of these dlls are different.

This File Version shows as 3.5.5386.0.

Note: Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition. Follow the same steps above; you will also see these dlls have a different File Version as well.

Solution: Download and Install Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2.

To correct this issue, we will have to download and install Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2.

Download and run the installation.

Extract the files to an easily accessible location such as the Desktop.

There will be two versions of the install that were extracted, an x86 and x64 version.

Run the x86 version first, after that install is complete, then run the x64 version.

After the installation, navigate back to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5.

Check the File versions of one of the dolls. It should now show as v3.5.8080.0.

After confirming the File version of the DLLs, run the IDWedgePro.exe again and try to open Formulas.

The Formulas feature should now open after installing Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2.
