Post-Windows 11 Update Checklist for Surface Tablets: Optimizing Settings for Windows 11 and IDentiFake

After updating your Surface tablet from Windows 10 to Windows 11, please double-check the following settings, as Windows may reset some configurations during the update. Set active hours for updates (e.g., 6 PM to 4 AM), adjust display settings for maximum brightness, and configure the correct resolution (1600 x 2650 for Surface Pro, 800 x 1200 for Surface Go). Disable USB power-saving in Device Manager, set the Power Mode to "Best Performance," and turn off the webcam. Finally, disable Microsoft OneDrive and Teams from starting automatically. These adjustments will help maintain optimal performance with IDentiFake.

Change the Active Hours in Windows 11

    • On the Windows Update screen in Windows 11, click Advanced options.

    • Then click the down arrow next to Active hours

    • In the area that appears, click Adjust active hours, and from the drop-down menu that appears, select Manually. Separate controls appear for “Start time” and “End time.” Select your new hours.

    • We recommend setting the hours to when the scanner will be used the most i.e Start Time 6 pm, End Time 4 am.

Changing the Display Settings

Open Settings then tap on System on the left hand column. Tap on Display.

  • Under Brightness and color, you are going to uncheck “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes”.

  • Once this is complete, slide the bar above this setting to the right for maximum brightness.

  • Turn Rotation Lock on

  • If setting up a SURFACE PRO

  • Further down on the page there will be a Resolution setting.

  • Click on it and select the resolution (1600 x 2650)

  • If setting up a Surface Go
  • Set Resolution to 800 x 1200

Setting The Correct Power Settings

Next we will turn off the Power Management feature for all the USB ports and USB Hubs connected to the Surface.

  1. To do so, open Device Manager.
  2. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and tap the arrow to the left hand corner of the screen.
  3. Right click on the USB Hub and go to Properties
  4. Once the Properties window is open go to Power Management
  5. Uncheck the box next to “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

DO THIS FOR EVERY USB PORT AND HUB SHOWN IN DEVICE MANAGER.

NOTE: Once the scanners are connected to the device. This step will have to be done once again.

Setting the Battery to Best Performance

  1. Open Settings then go to System.
  2. Select Power & Battery on the left hand column.
  3. Tap the drop down next to Power Mode and set to Best Performance.

  2. Tap the drop down arrow to the left of “Cameras”.
  3. Right click on “Intel(R) AVStream Camera 2500/or Surface Camera and select Disable device.
