Scanner Beeps but does not Display Data


Scanner Beeps but does not Display Data/Not Connected Error


Problem: When scanning a 2D barcode, the scanner beeps, but the data is not being displayed.

Possible Cause: This could be caused by the scanner not connecting when the application starts up. This usually results the software showing “Not Connected” in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

Solution: Reconnecting the Barcode and/or Magnetic Stripe Scanner to the AgeVisor Software. 

Reconnecting the scanner(s) on an AgeVisor Touch

Step 1: Click on the Connection button in the Settings tab


Step 2: Check the boxes next to POS HID Scanner Enable and MSR Magstripe Enable.

NOTE: If you have an AgeVisor Touch that ONLY scans barcodes, please only check POS HID.

Only if Magnetic Stripe reader equipped: If the COM port for M260/MSR Port is COM1 change it to be the other option (typically COM3).

Press the following buttons in order if using an AgeVisor Touch w/ a Barcode Reader and Magstripe reader:

  1. Connect MSR 
  2. Config MSR 
  3. Connect POS HID
  4. Config/Test Scanner

Press the following buttons in order if using an AgeVisor Touch w/ a Barcode Reader only:

  1. Connect POS HID
  2. Config/Test Scanner

After reconnecting the scanner(s) check the box for Automatic Port Open then press Save/Exit.


Step 3: Go back to the Main tab and ensure the software show “Scanner Connected” on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. 

Scan and ID. 

If it correctly displays the information, then the issue should now be solved. 

Reconnecting the scanner(s) on an AgeVisor 2, Mini, or Contactless

At the bottom right of the screen it will say Not Connected.



Step 1: Go to Settings > Connection.



Step 2: Ensure there is a COM port selected under M430 Port i.e. “COM4”.

If Magnetic Stripe reader equipped (AV2/AVC Only): Ensure MSR Magstripe Enable is checked. 

Press the following buttons in order if using an AgeVisor 2, Contactless, or Mini w/ a Barcode Reader only:

1. Connect M430.
2. Config/Test Scanner.

Press the following buttons in order if using an  AgeVisor 2, or Contactless w/ a Barcode Reader and Magstripe reader:

1. Connect MSR.
2. Config MSR.
3. Connect M430.
4. Config/Test Scanner.


Step 3: Go back to Main. You will now see Scanner Ready on the bottom right.
