The procedure in the document explains multiple ways of how to eject a stuck ID in an M500. An ID can become stuck in an M500 due to forceful scanning (i.e., adding extra push to ID when it is being pulled in by the scanner) and becoming stuck due to the physical condition of the ID (i.e., ID being bent at corners, cut in certain areas, ID being curved).
There are two ways an ID can be stuck in the M500 scanner.
You’ll notice when the ID is that the Power LED is a solid green.
The middle LED will turn solid blue.
The LED to the right will become a faint blue.
When an ID is completely stuck, the Power LED will stay a solid green.
The middle LED will have no light.
The LED to the right will become solid red.
Step 1: Press the Eject Button. The M500 scanner should now slowly push the ID out where it can be removed.
Step 2: The ID should now be removable with no resistance at all.
Once the ID is removed, you will notice the Power LED light become green again.
Step 3: Calibration. At this point, you need to calibrate the M500 without any dust present on the mirrors. This is a simple and mostly automatic process.

After calibrating the scanner, scan the Calibration Card outwards to clear the calibration scan.
Step 1: Gently pull the drawer containing the M500 scanner open.
Step 2: Once the drawer is pulled out, look on the right side of the M500.
Unlock the door by gently pulling the latch open. Insert your finger in the indentation, and then gently pull outwards to open the door.
Step 3: Carefully remove the stuck ID from the M500 reader.
Once the ID is removed, close the door back into place. You will hear a click once it is locked into place.
Once the door is closed, you’ll notice the Power LED light will be the only LED that is lit.
This indicates the scanner is ready for a new scan.
Before pushing the drawer back in place, ensure the connections to the back of the M500 are secure.
Please ensure the cables are straight and not in the way of getting stuck to prevent the drawer from closing all the way in.
Once the cables are confirmed to be out of the way, gently push the drawer back into place.
When pushing in the drawer, you will feel the drawer lock into place. You should not be able to easily pull the drawer open without any force. If you are able to easily pull the drawer open, please re-check the cable orientation to ensure they are not in the way.
Step 4: Calibration. At this point, you need to calibrate the M500 without any dust present on the mirrors. This is a simple and mostly automatic process.
